Following CJ McMahon’s recent departure from Thy Art Is Murder, the band performed with a new vocalist last night at Turbinenhalle 2 in Oberhausen, Germany. Their official social media accounts featured photos of Aversions Crown’s Tyler Miller from the performance, confirming him as the new frontman.
The caption of the images on Facebook read:
“Prisoner of earth/King in the afterlife/We were born to be godlike.”
When Thy Art Is Murder announced McMahon’s dismissal through a statement on Instagram almost a week ago, they also wrote that his vocals in the new album, ‘Godlike,’ were re-recorded by the new singer. As the album came out a week later than initially planned due to ‘production delays,’ the band explained McMahon’s absence as follows:
“We understand that this may come as a surprise, and we want to assure you that this decision was made to preserve the band’s integrity and direction.”
The news came out a few months after the controversy that arose due to the ex-vocalist’s transphobic comments about a mother and a child on social media. Following the incident, Thy Art Is Murder shared their support for the Trans community on Instagram while he posted an apology video.
Still, the band explained the recent situation’s effect on the decision by writing:
“What transpired over the past month was not the cause of this action but just another symptom of the drawn-out breakdown in his character and judgment. The straw that broke the camel’s back, if you will.”
As of now, Thy Art Is Murder is set to continue their ‘Godlike’ European tour with Miller as the frontman. New dates in Germany, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden will follow tonight’s show in the Netherlands in the upcoming months.
