Paradise Lost is celebrating 30 years of Icon with a completely re-recorded version of the album and two upcoming UK shows featuring My Dying Bride.

If you are one of those wondering when the British doom forefathers will be entering the studio to record new material, we have good news for you! In a recent interview with La Mesa Del Metal, guitarist Aaron Aedy confirmed that the band will be getting back to serious songwriting after their upcoming 30th anniversary shows for their iconic album Icon.

"We're gonna be doing some Icon shows at the end of the year. And I think once we've got the Icon shows out of the way, that's when the band sort of locks down into serious songwriting. I think there'll be a few more songs done before then, but, yeah, once Greg Mackintosh, and Nick Holmes— they prefer to write when they're in songwriting mode," Aedy said.

Aedy also implied the band is not sure what direction the new music will take: "It's still very early. I mean, we've only got the first few tracks. And to be honest, even when we get… usually when we get halfway through, we still don't know what the other half's gonna be like”

Reflecting about the re-recording of Icon, Aedy added:  "Re-recording Icon has been great fun to do, actually. I love revisiting the old albums. 'Cause obviously there's usually about three or four songs that you've played live for definite, and then there's some other gems and you think, 'Oh, God, we never played this live. Why not? It's such a good song.”

The band's latest studio album Obsidian came out in May of 2020 and it was a critical success despite being release during the dark times of the Covid-19 pandemic. On November of the same year the band did their livestream show Live At The Mill, and later released it as an official live album.
