Megadeth's mainman Dave Mustaine has been all over the news in recent months, either for stating that his relationship with Metallica is in a better place than ever before – which curiously came not long after he pondered why Megadeth has never gone on tour with Metallica, and even accused his former bandmates of trying to hold him back – or for saying that Marty Friedman is the only former Megadeth member that's ever amounted to anything.
In a new interview with Finland's Chaoszine, Mustaine looked back on the success achieved by Megadeth since the early 80s, and how he dealt with the negative opinions scattered along his path for the 4 decades: "I like to give our fans the understanding that they can do anything that they want to do if they put their mind to it. It may take a little bit of time depending on what they want to do but I encourage them to follow their dreams as I did. It's the people that get in your way and tell you that you can't do things that you need to get out of your life. Because they're the ones that are going to stop you from achieving those dreams."
"Who would have ever thought I… If you would have asked a young Dave Mustaine that I would have lived this long, I would have said 'No.' Mustaine mused "Or if you would have said that I would have been successful for 40 years straight, I would have said 'No, I don't believe it.'"
"But you stick to your guns, you have your own personal truth, and you stick to it. And you don't have to ever remember the lies." Mustaine added "Sometimes you will upset people and disappoint people. There's nothing worse than when someone comes into your presence and tries to change you. It's kind of like, what did you like about me in the first place?"
