Slipknot’s Corey Taylor recently spoke with Eddie Trunk on SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation. During their conversation, Corey discusses “Post Traumatic Blues” and the influence Anthrax has on it. He also details his album making process and how he originally had 30 songs to choose from.
SiriusXM's Trunk Nation, hosted by SiriusXM's Eddie Trunk, airs daily at 3 PM ET on SiriusXM’s Faction Talk.
An excerpt below:
Eddie Trunk: The new song “Post Traumatic Blues,” which Scott Ian sitting here, I must say riffage-wise feels a little anthrax-ish to me.
Corey Taylor: “Oh, very, very. I mean, when I was writing that like you could almost feel the Anthrax coming out. I mean, it's got, I mean, they're one of my biggest influences as well, you know, so this is really like a chance for me to kind of show that and share it with the audience. I mean, nobody has really ever been able to like, not only just like drop in crazy breakdowns and stuff, but I mean just tear through songs and then give people that extra punch like Anthrax did, man. Like they were just, they were some of the best at it. So there's definitely an Anthrax-like influence on this song for me, especially when I was writing it. And then the way we put the layers on it on top as well, really was really inspired by Scott and company.”
Taylor on the album making process: “I really took my time putting together and writing everything for this album and deciding what was gonna make it and what wasn't. I mean, I had 30 songs to pick from and we walked in with 26, if you include the covers that we did, and we had 18 originals that I was like, ‘Okay, these are the ones that we're gonna really try and concentrate on.’ And then we paired that down to 13 and we kind of went with that, you know? So I wanted to make sure that everything that I've done in my career was represented. The heavy stuff, the hard rock stuff, the punk stuff, I mean, just everything, you know, the acoustic stuff. I wanted to make sure that when people heard it, they got everything that they would want from a Corey Taylor album.”

Taylor's upcoming album, CMF2, follows his 2020 solo debut CMFT, which featured the #1 Billboard Active Rock single “Black Eyes Blue” and streaming sensation “CMFT Must Be Stopped” (feat. Tech N9ne and Kid Bookie). The LP hit #6 on Billboard’s US Top Rock Albums charts.
“My first solo album was kind of where I was coming from. This album is more where we're going,” Taylor adds. CMF2 - where Taylor sings and plays lead and rhythm guitar, piano, and mandolin - packs the energy, experimentation, and forthrightness that’s defined a career which has seen him sell more than 12 million albums with his Grammy-winning band Slipknot and several million with chart-toppers Stone Sour.
CMF2 is Taylor’s first album for BMG and the first on his own label imprint, Decibel Cooper Recordings.
Jay Ruston (Anthrax, Steel Panther, Amon Amarth), who produced Stone Sour’s 2017 Hydrograd LP as well as CMFT, returns for Taylor’s second full-length. “Together we have great ideas, great energy, and are quick to try everything,” Taylor says of his studio collaborator. “We’re not afraid to tell each other if it’s a good idea, or also a bad one; we have that kind of trust.”
The CMFT band is:
Corey Taylor (vocals/guitar)
Zach Throne (rhythm/lead guitars)
Dustin Robert (drums)
Christian Martucci (rhythm/lead guitars)
Eliot Lorango (bass)
