SANGUISUGABOGG Explains Their Long Band Name

Sanguisugabogg is enjoying a pretty high level of success for a band called Sanguisugabogg. Their name is hard to pronounce, the logo looks like someone just shit out their organs, and the music is utterly vile death metal.

But how the hell did Sanguisugabogg arrive at their unique name? According to drummer Cody Davidson in an interview with The Garza Podcast, it all started as a stage name for former guitarist Cameron Boggs.

"It's hard for us to comment on that because straight up, we didn't come with the name," said Davidson as transcribed by Metal Injection. "Cameron, our old guitar player came with the name. The way he explained it to us was like, he was in a black metal band and his stage name was Sanguisuga and his last name's Boggs. He didn't want to be Sanguisuga Boggs. So he took the 'S' out and he presented it to me first as a side project.

"We played in like a punk band once called Humility. He thought I was cool drummer. I was not really into death metal, I had no idea about Maggot Stomp or caveman death metal or anything, but I heard 'Succulent Decedent' [from Pornographic Seizures] and I thought that was a cool fucking riff. I wanted a reason to play drums because I'm a drummer second, guitar player first. [Sanguisugabogg] was just supposed to be a side project and you know, it just accidentally became the thing.

"We did not really play a factor into the name, you know? However the gimmick of the most illegible logo and the most unpronounceable name has worked to our favor and I wouldn't change it."
