COREY TAYLOR On STONE SOUR's Hiatus: "I Refuse To Compromise My Vision And My Art Because Of Certain People's Hindrances"

Stone Sour went on indefinite hiatus in 2020, with vocalist Corey Taylor later clarifying that "there's still so much drama and issues [between the members]. To me, it's just not something I desire to do." Now three years later, it still doesn't seem like there's any chance Stone Sour is coming back any time soon.

In an interview with Rock Antenne, Taylor heaped praised onto his solo band while mentioning that there are still issues within the Stone Sour camp. Taylor doesn't go into specific details about the band, but specifically notes that it's "not that I don't miss some of the guys in Stone Sour." So y'know, not all of 'em.

"In certain ways. I mean, it certainly is with [my solo] band. My solo band is made up of just such clutch dudes. Obviously, I've got [guitarist Christian Martucci]. Zach Throne is incredible. Dustin, our drummer, is amazing. And now having Eliot, the new bass player, who can play anything you throw at him, man — I mean, it's ridiculous… it's criminal how good he is. When you have a great problem like that… That makes the recording stuff easy, because then, when you hit them with the demos, which largely are just me playing the song and going, 'Okay, I'm hearing stuff here.'

"I give them carte blanche to kind of do what they want, but at the same time I have a clear vision. And that's where the hard work comes in. Suddenly you don't have a band that you can just kind of blend in with or delegate or dictate to. It's all you — it's all on you. The artwork's on you. The production's on you. The songwriting's on you. The work's on you. The press is on you. Everything is on you. And I was kind of like that to begin with. So I was, like, 'Well, why don't I do this and be really happy with everything?'"

"It's not that I don't miss some of the guys in Stone Sour; I still talk to them. But at this stage, I refuse to compromise my vision and my art because of certain people's hindrances. And that's all I'll say."

As of right now, Hydrograd from 2017 is Stone Sour's final album. Considering Taylor still has Slipknot and is gearing up to release CMF2, I can't imagine a Stone Sour reunion is in the cards.
