Ted Nugent's July 18 show at the Avondale Brewing Co. in Birmingham, AL has been canned thanks to his politics.

The show was originally announced on Monday, May 1, and quickly garnered roughly 1,000 comments on the Avondale Brewing Facebook page. The comments according to AL.com ranged from "Lose this show or lose my business" to "Grotesque that you would book such trash," right to "To bring this transphobic individual into our diverse neighborhood is a travesty."

Avondale Brewing Co. has since cancelled the show, deleted all posts about it, and posted a statement saying "We have heard the concerns of the Avondale community, which is so important to us, and in conjunction with our partners, have taken the necessary steps to to cancel the Ted Nugent concert scheduled for July 18."

And I know, the joke is that "wow, Ted is too conservative for Alabama"! But Birmingham is in Jefferson County, who voted pretty heavily blue in the 2020 election. Nugent has since kind of responded, saying "liars & haters drunk on stupid incapable to debate me-" Which can certainly be described as English words assembled into the structure some folks would recognize as a sentence.

Nugent has voiced his disapproval of the transgender community in the past, recently tweeting "There is no such thing as transgender. You cannot change your gender. Comfortably numb is actually uncomfortably dumb. Debate me but bring your bib."

Which is very much in line with all the performative anti-trans rhetoric going around, namely when Kid Rock got mad at a beer company. I mean, Nugent even posted a video of someone shooting Bud Light with a tank recently, incase you're wondering what the sub-levels of stupidity we're dealing with are.

Ultimately, this is all going to feed into someone like Nugent's whole "see! They're trying to suppress me!" oppression narrative, even though nobody is. If a venue's customer base doesn't want you there, they don't want you there. Simple as that.
