Former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony seems to be plotting a brand new band. According to Anthony in an interview with SiriusXM's Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk, Anthony may very well have a new group with Bon Jovi shredder Phil X and Aerosmith touring drummer John Douglas. Anthony also states the band has a "really cool singer" that he won't name, and that it's just a fun recording project at the moment.
"Well, I wasn't going to mention anything about it, but there is a little side project thing that I've kind of been speaking to some people, and might be doing a couple of things with. I don't wanna get ahead of myself and mention too much, but it might involve Phil X [Bon Jovi guitarist] and John Douglas, who you know as [the touring drummer] for Aerosmith right now."
"I've known J.D. for many years, since he's worked with Van Halen. What a great guy. And we do have a singer. I don't wanna mention any names, but a really, really cool singer. And we're recording just for fun right now, some stuff. That's all I can say."
Anthony played bass for Van Halen between 1974 and 2006, though his time with the band was a little rocky in the final decade. Anthony has since played with bands like Chickenfoot and The Circles, and was rumored to be a part of the Van Halen tribute tour that never happened.
As for the new band, here's hoping it rules! Anthony is a rock solid bassist and the addition of Phil X on guitar bodes well in the shred department. And it's something Anthony should be used to, given his work with Joe Satriani in Chickenfoot.
