Six Feet Under is just about done writing the follow-up to their 2020 album Nightmares Of The Decomposed. The new album will be the band's first with former guitarist Jack Owen, who played with Six Feet Under vocalist Chris Barnes in Cannibal Corpse throughout the late '80s and early '90s.
"Jack Owen and yours truly are just about done writing the New Six Feet Under album and it's INCREDIBLY FUCKING HEAVY," wrote Barnes on Twitter. So stay tuned, as it seems like 2023 might see the release of a new Six Feet Under record.
In the meantime, you can check out Barnes' list of his favorite death metal albums of all time here.
So how does Cannibal Corpse feel about Barnes and Owen reuniting? Cannibal Corpse bassist Alex Webster said in a 2021 interview he's happy for them. Because really, what other opinion is there? If everyone's happy, that's awesome. "That is cool, man. I'm sure they're having a great time jamming together again. So, yeah, it's killer."
Webster later added he only heard some of the band's newest album Nightmares Of The Decomposed, but there's "some cool grooves on there."
"Jack's got a really distinct writing style, and he's got a great groove. But, yeah, there's some cool grooves on there. And the rest of the band too. I really like Jeff Hughell's bass playing. Marco's a killer drummer. So, yeah, it's a cool band. And it sounds really good, the music."
Owen and Barnes were part of the original Cannibal Corpse lineup alongside Webster, guitarist Bob Rusay, and drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz. Barnes fronted Cannibal Corpse between 1988 and 1995, while Owen played guitar for the band between 1988 and 2004. Owen was then a part of Deicide between 2004 and 2016, and joined Six Feet Under in 2017.
