Saxon have announced that “after much soul searching, our great friend and fellow warrior” Paul Quinn has stepped back from touring with the band. Quinn is the founding member and guitarist of the NWOBHM leaders who has been at the helm since the band’s creation in 1975.

“After many years on the road, with the subsequent stress and tiredness that accompany long tour schedules, Paul doesn’t want his performance to suffer and let his fellow bandmates and fans down,” a statement read.

“Paul will continue to record with the band and may play special shows in the future. Saxon stand by Paul’s decision and will keep you all informed regarding our next journey.”

“The current run of March shows in Europe will continue as is, but the band will be cancelling their April dates in South America and the MOR Cruise to give time to re-group. These territories will be rebooked as soon as time permits.”

“All summer festivals will continue as booked. Keep the faith!”

Saxon recently played the 3Olympia Theatre in Dublin, an evening where the attending masses all have one common goal, to worship upon the altar of British Heavy Metal legends Saxon.

“After a cheeky dig at the freeloading ‘royalty’ in the guest boxes,” Brian Boyle wrote for MetalTalk, “a classic one-two of Crusader and The Eagle Has Landed had a unifying effect on the Saxon faithful. The latter also highlighted why the unassuming Paul Quinn could go toe to toe with any guitarist on the planet and reign supreme.”
