Megadeth will reunite with former guitarist Marty Friedman for the first time in 23 years on February 27 at the Nippon Budokan venue in Tokyo. Of course this means that Friedman has been giving some thought to his decade in Megadeth, which he spoke a little bit about in an interview with Sobre La Dosis.
Interestingly, Friedman said his favorite Megadeth records are the classics Rust In Peace and Countdown, but his favorite times in the band were later in the '90s around the Euthanasia and Cryptic Writings records.
"If you would have asked me at the time that I was in Megadeth, I would have definitely said whatever album we were working on at the time. I can tell you with 100 percent certainty that anything that we did when I was in the band was a complete effort to do our absolute best. When [an album] was finished and we all thought it was done, we signed off on it and we knew it was the best album that we could make, and it was really what represented us at that period of time.
"Now looking back over all these years… I haven't really heard everything in the details that I [would have] listened to it when I was in the band, but I would probably say that my favorite record is somewhere between Rust In Peace and Countdown. But my favorite period of time in the band was probably Euthanasia and Cryptic Writings.
"With this Megadeth [show coming] up, it's really kind of forced me to think about Megadeth stuff. It's been a while and it's kind of fun looking back to all this stuff."
Friedman joined Megadeth in 1990 and left the band in 2000 right after the release of Risk, which was his breaking point as explained by Dave Mustaine in a 2022 interview.
