OLA ENGLUND: "It's The Mistakes And The Grooves That Make An Album Unique"

Last week, Behemoth frontman Nergal spoke out on the state of modern metal and how overly-polished its records have become. There was plenty of backlash against Nergal's opinion, which began by stating "Ninety-nine percent of the records, they sound robotic. Every fucking click, every kick, every snare drum, every part of the record is exactly the same."

Now in a new video, guitarist Old Englund backed Nergal and added that "it's the mistakes and the grooves that make an album unique." Which is certainly true in some cases, but it also really depends on what you're going for in your music. Hyper-technical death metal bands might not want their instruments off by any amount, while your average stoner metal band needs to groove as hard as possible.

"Metal news magazines online can quote me on this one when I say that these are the words of an old metal fart – just like me," said Englund. "I absolutely agree with what he's saying right here.

"A guy like me, and a guy like Nergal – we like when stuff is grooving. I've said this a bunch of times, but I like to leave mistakes in albums, because it's the mistakes and the grooves that make an album unique. I see Nergal is getting a lot of shit for his statement right here. But to some extent, I kind of agree with him."
