It's widely understood across the globe that Kirk Hammett of Metallica is the Dalai Lama of all things horror. So, to save us all from the mundane task of endlessly scrolling though ten tons of crap films available for streaming, trying in vain to find the movie to make everything about your Halloween danky and bright, Kirk covered all the essentials in a new interview with Gibson TV's Metal and Monsters series.

Here, Hammett explains why The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) "truly frightened [me]… there hadn't been a film like that up to that point that was so graphic and violent in its brutality…. It was a real experience."

And about 1973's shocking classic The Exorcist, the Metallica guitarist noted, "I thought the perpetrators of that film were coming after me next … it was an honest fear when we were kids," explaining that he was a Catholic school kid. "For the next four months I slept with the lights on every single night."

One can only imagine! I have to say: great mentions from Kirk. And, while I have the chance—you know, because it's fun—I'd like to offer up Alien (1979), Dario Argento's Suspiria (1977), Hitchcock's Psycho (1960), and Poltergeist (1982) to the discussion as all being very Halloween Night-worthy viewing.

It's actually a pretty good time to be a horror movie fan, and not just it's because it's the time of the season. New streaming providers like Shudder and Screambox are competing for fans loyalty by trying to provide the best the genre has to offer, from Universal Pictures classics like the original Dracula and Frankenstein films, to recent international efforts like Welcome to Hell, a film from Argentina directed by Jimena Monteoliva.
