New York noisemakers Prong are back in the groove, putting the final coat on their forthcoming new LP, and prepping a first single for the beginning of the new year. Prong main-man Tommy Victor confirmed the news in Heavy New York, saying that basic tracking has been completed, with a few solos and vocals left for Victor to bang out in time for the band's upcoming European tour, in support of fellow New Yorkers and friends Life of Agony.
"I can tell you the single will be out, the digital single, in January," Victor said last weekend at Aftershock festival in Sacramento. " 'Cause the record is almost done. So for our European tour with Life of Agony in January, the single will be out. And the [full-length] record [will be out in], I guess, April or something. It depends on when the pressing plant can do it. It's on Steamhammer/SPV again, the same label. All the basic tracks are done. I've just gotta do vocals and solos now." The album will be the follow up to 2017's Zero Days album, and Prong's 13th studio album overall, beginning with their debut LP Force Fed released in 1989. In 1994, the band released their most commercially noted LP, Cleansing, and the 90s golden nugget single, "Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck." Prong would tour in support of both Pantera and Sepultura that year, but would ultimately press on through the decades as a mostly-underground attraction with Victor being the sole constant in the group.
Describing the vibe of the new LP, Victor said "This one is special because it's the first record I've written since I moved back to New York, (to) Amityville, (Long Island). So that concept is there, where it's, like, you know what? This is where the early Prong stuff was written. I wrote it in my apartment in Amityville, and it's killer. So that's the concept, is that it's written back where I'm from. It's very hardcore, it's really heavy, but Prong has to have the hooks, so it's still in there too. There's a lot of good choruses and understandable lyrics."
Wow… Based on that description, who else can't wait for January and some new Prong?! Alas, just a few more months. But in the meantime, how about a throwback to tide us over?
