Former Whitesnake and current the Dead Daisies drummer Brian Tichy sat down for an interview with TotalRock and expressed his feelings about his former bandmate, David Coverdale.
Since being introduced to the music scene, Whitesnake has seen various lineup changes and hiatuses. Especially in the 1990s, they disbanded and regrouped many times due to various reasons ranging from the personal issues of David Coverdale to a general discomfort about the music industry. They last took a hiatus in 1997, reunited in 2003, and have been on the music scene since then with different lineups.
Brian Tichy was also present in one of these lineups. Taking his place behind the drums in 2010, Tichy played for Whitesnake for three years until he left the band to devote time to different projects. The drummer, who also played percussion and sang backing vocals during his time in the band, is featured in four Whitesnake albums and many live performances.
Recalling his time with Whitesnake in his last interview with TotalRock, Tichy said good words about the frontman David Coverdale, whom he played with during his tenure. He started by saying that Coverdale was a great guy and praised his ability to lead a band.
He stated that Coverdale, as a ‘boss,’ has always given great support to the musicians playing in his band. Saying that receiving attention from your boss encourages you to get better, Tichy added that Coverdale creates such an atmosphere around him that everyone can feel like they are a part of Whitesnake.
Brian Tichy’s words about David Coverdale read:
“And, yeah, David’s a great guy, and he’s been, I think he’s really smart in two ways. Like it’s very… It inflates… You know, it enhances your spirit when your boss goes out and puts out a little press release of ‘My new drummer or my new guitar player, he’s awesome.’ Like I… Whatever he said about me or whatever he says about any of his players, he really gives them big props.
So, yeah, it makes the musicians feel like, you know, they’re being given that attention from the boss. And also, it does create the atmosphere around him where everybody associates Whitesnake and Coverdale with, you know, ‘Oh, he always has great musicians.’ And he has. He has. So, yeah, it’s nice to be a part of that.”
