In a recent interview with Loudwire, Sevendust frontman Lajon Witherspoon extended an invitation to Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger to go out on tour together. He added that he appreciated Kroeger’s kind words about their live stage performances.
In the early days of touring, Nickelback shared the stage with Disturbed and Sevendust. They would initially be the shows’ openers, but later there were also a few occasions where Sevendust opened for them after Nickelback established themselves as a successful act.
However, what remained in Kroeger’s mind was how challenging it was to go on stage after that epic of a performance. He explained that Sevendust’s fantastic live performances that captured the crowd had made him wary of being their follow-up.
Sevendust’s frontman, who heard about Chad Kroeger’s kind words about their live performances, also had a message for Nickelback. Witherspoon said that Chad and he are good friends and revealed that he had been asking to Kroeger to go on a tour together for the last decade, but it hasn’t happened yet.
He added that he loved Kroeger for talking about Sevendust in that manner, but he also pointed out that Nickelback held its power on stage and that they could definitely go after them if the tour were ever to happen.
Lajon Witherspoon’s invitation to Nickelback for a tour with Sevendust:
“I love it! Chad is a good friend of mine. I love him, and what I would like to say is if he could see this or if you could make sure he sees this. Take us out on tour! I’ve been talking to you about this for the last ten years!
For him to put that out there was so cool. I love him for saying that and just being honest. They can go on after us; Nickelback is great, they hold their own, but it was so cool to see that.”
When it came to sharing his thoughts about the band that he wouldn’t want to follow after, Witherspoon shared that he wasn’t scared of anyone specifically, but he admired Kiss and Nothing More for their live performances.
