In a recent interview with The Entertainment Outlet, guitarist Ritchie Faulkner shared some details about the recording sessions for Judas Priest‘s next album. He added that they would record Rob Halford’s vocals after the tour to preserve his voice.

Judas Priest’s latest release was in 2018 with ‘Firepower.’ The band has yet to release an album since then due to the pandemic restrictions and their touring schedule. They have been working on a follow-up to ‘Firepower’; however, the band is in no rush.

The sound of the new album is expected to be different than anything the band has ever done. The band members have always expressed their wish to try new things and not get stuck to what they have already created. So, fans can expect to hear a more progressive version of Judas Priest in their forthcoming album, presumably in the new year.

Ritchie Faulkner recently disclosed that the band has been trying to record the new album, but there have been a few obstacles along the way. First was the pandemic, which meant they couldn’t get together to work on the album. After the restrictions were lifted, the next obstacle was the tour. The band members had to record every chance they could get, and they were able to record everything besides the vocals.

Faulkner said that after the tour’s U.S. leg, they would start working on the vocals for the new album. The tour spans until the end of the year, with some dates in South America. The band will get back to recording at the beginning of the New Year, which means Rob Halford has to keep his voice in check and not push himself too much so they can record once the tour is over.

The Priest guitarist’s words about Rob Halford’s vocals:

“We’re getting there. We’ve been trying to get it done. The first obstacle was the pandemic because we couldn’t get together and do it as a group. When the pandemic restrictions were lifted, then we could go on tour. So the next obstacle, if you want to call it that, was the tour. We had to go out and tour and record bits and pieces in between the tour legs. So we’ve got drums done, we’ve got guitars done, we’ve got the bass done.

The main thing we have to do now is vocals. So we’ve got the U.S. leg of the tour coming up, so Rob will have to protect and use his voice sparingly before that. So maybe after that. I mean, we’ve got dates in the U.S., and we’ve got South America, which takes us into December. So we can start working on vocals in the New Year.”
