The Doobie Brothers took to the band’s official Instagram account to express their condolences and share a few words to commemorate their former drummer John Hartman.

The Doobie Brothers’ co-founding member and former drummer John Hartman reportedly passed away at 72. The drummer had a long tenure with the band before he permanently departed in 1992.

Hartman’s first tenure with the Doobie Brothers was in the ’70s when the band enjoyed their first and only number 1 album ‘Minute by Minute’ on the Billboard 200 charts. The single ‘What a Fool Believes’ not only topped the charts but also won the band a Grammy.

Hartman enjoyed the prime years of the Doobie Brothers before the tensions between members increased, which ultimately resulted in his permanent departure in 1992. Although he retired from the band, he was still inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame as part of the Doobie Brothers in 2020.

The Doobie Brothers shared that they had been thinking of their close friend Little John. They described him as a great drummer and showman when he was a part of the band. The band members praised him as an integral part of the band’s brand and persona to the outside world. They also gave their condolences to his loved ones during this time of grief.

The Doobie Brothers’ IG post about the passing of John Hartman read:

“Today, we are thinking of John Hartman or Little John to us. John was a wild spirit, great drummer, and showman during his time in the Doobies. He was also a very close friend for many years and an intricate part of the band’s personality! We send our condolences to all his loved ones at this difficult time. Rest In Peace, John.
