Dirk Verbeuren has been in Megadeth since 2016 and has been a fan long before that. Which means he's has had plenty of time to pick through the band's back catalog and decide what some of his favorite songs are. In an interview with I Ask No One with Kevin Re LoVullo, Verbeuren said he's a big fan of playing material from the first two Megadeth records – Killing Is My Business… and Business Is Good! and Peace Sells… But Who's Buying?. Verbeuren also praises drummer Gar Samuelson, who played in Megadeth between 1984 and 1987. Samuelson passed away in 1999.
"I love 'em all. But definitely the Gar stuff, the stuff off of Peace Sells and Killing Is My Business," said Verbeuren as transcribed by Metal Injection. "That's the stuff I grew up with first, and it means a lot to me. Songs like 'Wake Up Dead' or 'The Conjuring' which we've been playing a lot recently, 'Rattlehead' [and] 'Mechanix' – all that crazy stuff. It's a lot of fun. It's a workout. They're not the easiest songs to play, but I love Gar's style. He was something else and that stuff always makes me enjoy being there."
Verbeuren also had some high praise for former Megadeth drummer Nick Menza, who played in the band between 1989 and 1998.
"Nick embodied everything that Megadeth was about. In those years at least, he was so spectacular to watch and just had this presence behind the kit [that] went beyond what he was playing. It was just his personality showing whenever they would perform. I think that's awesome if you can have that. That's certainly something that inspires me and it's something to think about whenever I'm going to go on stage with the band. To not just play the songs – of course you want to play the songs and play them really well – but you want to bring something to table as far as entertainment goes. People came to see a show. To have a blast. That's something people like Nick put on my radar."
