In a recent interview with Metal Hammer, Corey Taylor shared his thoughts about rekindling his friendship with Slipknot‘s Jim Root and working together for a side project.
Corey Taylor had co-founded Stone Sour with drummer Joel Ekman in 1992 before joining Slipknot in 1997. However, after their last album in 2017, the band has been on a hiatus due to the turmoil between bandmates. The issues among bandmates also include Taylor’s decision to kick Jim Root out of Stone Sour in 2014.
Although there isn’t a Stone Sour reunion any time soon, Corey Taylor has made amends with his old friend Root. The duo has worked out their issues and decided to work together once again.
Corey Taylor stated that he and Jim Root have many differences and went through some difficult patches in life. Taylor said he needed to be accountable for his actions that may have caused their friendship to fizzle out. However, once he owned up to his wrongdoings and wanted to mend the relationship caused by his circumstances at the time, they could understand each other. Taylor finally added that they were working on a side project that didn’t have anything to do with Slipknot or Stone Sour.
Corey Taylor’s words about reuniting with Jim Root:
“He and I are very different people, and we were both going through our shit in life. We reconnected, and we’re talking about doing some stuff on the side, outside of Slipknot and Stone Sour.”
He added:
“It’s cool to find your friend again and realize that you can find your way back to people you care about. Honestly, I can’t sit here and say that I wasn’t responsible for some of the bad feelings. That can only come with self-reflection and the fact that the things that were going on in my life rippled and affected other people. Once you own up to that, you can start to mend bridges by showing people that you are truly sorry.”
Besides Corey Taylor and Jim Root’s new endeavor outside of either of the bands, Slipknot is counting down the days for their seventh album, ‘The End, So Far’ which will release September 30th.
