Marilyn Manson is currently under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department over allegations of sexual abuse by actor Evan Rachel Wood. Wood publicly named Manson as her abuser in February 2021 after previously detailing being mentally and physically tortured by "an older man" when she was 18-years-old. You can see the details of her original accusations here. Wood has since launched a documentary named Phoenix Rising about her lawsuit, while Manson has filed a lawsuit against Wood for defamation, emotional distress, and "impersonation over the internet."
In a new video update, LA District Attorney George Gascón said the matter is still under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and has not made its way to the LA District Attorney's office. Gascón later added that he hopes the case will be review by his office this month, at which point they'll determine if charges should be filed against Manson.
"The [Marilyn Manson] matter is still under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and has not yet been submitted to our office. Be assured that we are requesting regular updates on the status of the investigation.
"The District Attorney is committed to investing in trauma-informed care for all victims of sexual assault, abuse and intimate partner violence. We understand how difficult it may be to come forward as a victim, especially when the case involves this level of notoriety, and are dedicated to treating all victims with the highest levels of care and respect.
"Once we have received the case, it will be carefully evaluated by an experienced prosecutor to determine if it is appropriate to file charges at this time. We are hopeful that the LASD will present the case to us sometime this month."
