Steve Vai tweeted on his official Twitter account to share the story behind his first-ever gig. He added that Joe Satriani had sold his cabinet to him when he was a kid.
Vai has worked with some of the most influential people in the music industry throughout his career. Besides the obvious Frank Zappa, he has dabbled in many other musical journeys, including Alcatrazz, David Lee Roth, and Whitesnake.
Since Vai’s journey in the music industry began when he was a little boy, he was easily impressed. The people he worked with and the equipment he had were greatly influenced by those around him and those who wanted to help him. One of those who was a big help was Joe Satriani as he sold Vai his cabinet when he had barely started the business.
Recently, Steve Vai tweeted a photo of a high school dance he performed at for the first time. He added that he purchased the cabinet from Joe Satriani, which was a big help to him then. Vai said he even found a handwritten receipt from Joe from back in the day.
Steve Vai’s tweets about Joe Satriani’s contribution to his first-ever gig:
“This photo was taken at a high school dance when I was either 13 or 14. This was the first gig I ever played in front of people! That’s a Univox Les Paul I owned, and the Fender Bandmaster amp in the background was my first real amp.”
He added:
“I purchased the cabinet from Joe Satriani when I was a kid. Oddly enough, while going through my archives for some Julen’s auction items, I found the handwritten receipt for it from Joe!”
