In a recent interview with Meltdown of Detroit’s WRIF radio station, Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine shared his thoughts about their decision to cover a Judas Priest song for an upcoming Amazon project.

Megadeth is gearing up for their new album ‘The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!’ to release on September 2. Before the album’s official release, Megadeth had been making headlines with the recently released second track from the upcoming album, ‘Night Stalkers,’ featuring Ice-T.

It’s been six years since Megadeth released their last studio album ‘Dystopia’ in 2016. Although the band completed the recordings of the entire album in 2020, it was postponed multiple times due to David Ellefson’s allegations of sexual harassment and, of course, Covid-19 restrictions.

Mustaine stated that Amazon approached them for a project, and they decided to micromanage Judas Priest’s version of the song’s recording. Dave said they realized there was no guide to the original production when they reviewed the song. Ultimately, they decided to treat the song as one of their own. After reproducing the song, the lead singer noted that the song became more straightforward with the additions they made.

Dave Mustaine’s thoughts about Megadeth’s decision to cover a Judas Priest song:

“We went and listened to the song and charted out the performance. And going into that micromanaging of the track, that minutiae production, we started to see many things in the song where it seemed like there was no guide for the track. So we did everything the way that we do our recordings. And it got a little more straightforward with the riffing and everything.

Megadeth is counting down the days for their new album, which has twelve songs plus a limited deluxe edition. Their new album is a big deal because this work will be their follow-up to ‘Dystopia.’
