JONATHAN DAVIS: "It Seems Like Music Has Moved On To A Place Where It Doesn't Matter About Talent"

Korn and Evanescence kicked off their headline North American tour in a big way, with a feature interview with Korn singer Jonathan Davis and Evanescence's Amy Lee in conversation with Interview magazine. The chat is fascinating, and we highly recommend that you check it out, but one highlight we'll note is when the pair get around to discussing the new generation of artists.

Davis puts his line in the sand first. "I'm totally into talent. It seems like music has moved on to a place where it doesn't matter about talent. It's about how talented the engineer is at faking everything."

Lee continues by adding, "And it has become so much about personalities too, right? I feel like that's like the new generation. It's more about a personality than the actual song. I've seen their Instagram but like, what is their music? What does that mean to you? But I don't want to be the old person complaining."

Davis interjects a joke, laughing at himself, "I know. I am old now." But as Lee summarizes, "We’re purists. We’re allowed to say it." Not only are they allowed, there's nothing wrong with being purist. Lee has got a good point. The other night, Lee jumped on stage with Korn for a rendition of "Freak on a Leash," which you can check out below, and then go catch Korn (and members of their crew you recently got to meet) and Evanescence on the road!
