David Lee Roth said his collaboration with John 5 would be released sometime soon all the way back in 2019. Some of the material surfaced with Roth's online Van Halen comic book called The Roth Project in 2021, and we've got a new standalone single "Nothing Could Have Stopped Us Back Then Anyway." The single's artwork is clearly an homage to Roth's time in Van Halen, though the singer hasn't made any comment about the song (or if there's any more coming) just yet.
John 5, on the other hand, has released a brief statement on the single via Instagram. His post read "I remember being in the studio with Dave cutting this track it was magic one of my fondest memories. I’ve loved Van Halen my whole life and that will never change @davidleeroth."
John 5 had previously commented on the single back in November 2021 during an interview with Paltrocast With Darren Paltrowitz. John 5 said he doesn't get a notice or anything when the songs finally see the light of day, but named "Nothing Could Have Stopped Us Back Then Anyway" as his favorite track he did with Roth.
"I don't get a notice, which is funny. I just find out on Blabbermouth or something. But there's a song that I just can't wait for Dave to release. It's called 'Nothing Could Have Stopped Us' and it's about Van Halen. It's my favorite song that I've ever done with Dave, and it is beautiful. I don't know why he's not releasing that one yet. And I just can't wait for people to hear that one. 'Cause it's about Van Halen. It's just absolutely wonderful. I just am really looking forward to him releasing that one."
