In a new interview with Metal Hammer, former Slayer guitarist Kerry King talked about getting into the studio with his ex-bandmate Paul Bostaph for his new unnamed band.
In 1981, Kerry King, Jeff Hanneman, Dave Lombardo, and Tom Araya came together and formed Slayer. They were initially a cover band that performed songs from legends like Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath. The band’s following achievements led them to reach their peak and be commercially successful enough to be considered a member of the ‘Big Four,’ along with Metallica, Megadeth, and Anthrax.
After nearly three decades of being together, Slayer announced in 2018 that they would not continue to play or release new records after completing their farewell tour. However, Kerry King publicly expressed his regret over their early retirement. He also admitted that their decision to break up was a mistake and even mentioned that he missed performing with Slayer.
In a recent interview, King talked about his new project, featuring the former Slayer drummer Paul Bostaph. Yet, the guitarist hesitated to reveal any other name that would be potentially involved in his new band. Kerry King mentioned that he and Bostaph work great together. He added that they started rehearsals through the end of March, and it was their first time together since Slayer’s last show at the end of 2019.
Kerry King’s words on working with Paul Bostaph:
“We just started rehearsing, and the only person I can give away is Paul because I took him from Slayer, and we work very well together. We didn’t start rehearsing until the end of March, and that was the first time since that last Slayer show at the end of 2019 that Paul and I finally got into a room together.”
Kerry King also revealed that he originally intended to tour with his new project before the pandemic, but he had to delay it until it was safe to perform in crowds. The guitarist is looking forward to touring and meeting the metal fans again.
