Punk legend Keith Morris (Black Flag, Circle Jerks) and his current group OFF! are back from hiatus, announcing their entire catalog will be reissued by Fat Possum records via a series of colored vinyl releases. Additionally, the group has signed to Fat Possum for a future LP currently in works.
The reissues will be available in late July and can be pre-ordered here. They include the long-player debut of First Four EPs, previously only available on vinyl as a 7" box set, and the group's first two full-length albums: OFF! (2012) and Wasted Years (2014). All of the LPs will include the original artwork created by artist Raymond Pettibon, who famously designed the covers for Black Flag's seminal early singles and LPs.
Along with the announcement of the reissues, a press release detailed that OFF! are currently working on a new studio album and a documentary, which is to be entitled FREE LSD. More details will be announced soon. Images of the LP reissues as well as a promotional clip can be found below.
In 2019, the band announced a Kickstarter to fund the production of an album and film that was to be called Watermelon, but didn't meet their fundraising goal, which effectively put a question mark on the band's future. The band remained inactive until last year, when they contributed a cover of "Holier Than Thou" to Metallica's Blacklist compilation. A very comedic video for the track, featuring David Yow of The Jesus Lizard, can be seen below.
OFF! formed in 2009 in Los Angeles with Morris, guitarist Dimitri Coats (Burning Brides), bassist Steven McDonald (Melvins/Redd Kross), and drummer Mario Rubalcaba (Earthless, Rocket from the Crypt). Originally signed to the much-maligned Vice Records label, the band entered a period of inactivity in 2015, as both McDonald and Rubalcaba returned to their main gigs. They have since been replaced with bassist Autry Fulbright II (… And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead) and drummer Justin Brown (Thundercat, Herbie Hancock).
Keith Morris will be heading out with Circle Jerks to celebrate the band's 40th anniversary beginning this week. The dates were originally scheduled for earlier this year, but Morris sadly contracted COVID, forcing the cancellation of dates. You can catch all rescheduled dates below. Circle Jerks currently consists of Morris, guitarist Greg Hetson (Bad Religion, Redd Kross), bassist Zander Schloss (The Weirdos, Joe Strummer) and drummer Joey Castillo (The Bronx, Danzig, BL’AST!, etc.).
