Korn guitarist James ‘Munky’ Shaffer recently spoke during the press conference at Hellfest 2022 and admitted he would be happy if Metallica made a cover of one of his band’s songs.

Metallica is among the greatest metal bands of all time as one of the founding ‘Big Four’ bands of thrash metal. The band has influenced many metal bands throughout their career with their fast tempos, aggressiveness, and instrumentals. Due to that, many artists cover Metallica songs as a tribute to them.

Also, Korn is among those bands that Metallica has influenced. Jonathan Davis cited Metallica as his favorite band and respected them for being relevant even in today’s scene. Besides, during 2003’s MTV Icon special, Korn was among the others who paid tribute to Metallica, covering the band’s classic hit ‘One.’

During the press conference at Hellfest 2022, Korn’s James Shaffer, Brian Welch, and Ray Luzier revealed which band they would want to cover a Korn song. Upon hearing the question, Shaffer immediately said Metallica for making them do it. Welch said it would be Slipknot to listen to their songs’ heavier versions.

After thinking of bands that could do heavier Korn songs, Welch argued it would be Cannibal Corpse. Luzier then said hearing Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor cover a Korn song would be cool. Welch then admitted a Duran Duran cover would be awful and later mentioned bands like Go Down Boston, Zeppelin, Beatles, and Rage Against The Machine.

After being asked which band would Korn like to cover their songs, James Shaffer said the following:

Metallica. Just to make them do it.

Brian Welch added:

“Slipknot, to hear it a little, maybe heavier.”

After that, Shaffer said:

“Yeah, that’d be cool.”

Welch stated:

“I’m trying to think of a band that could do our songs heavier, but I don’t know. Our guitars are different.”

Shaffer then interrupted him, saying:

“They’re too good.”

Welch asked:

“How about Cannibal Corpse?”

Shaffer responded:

That’d be cool. To hear their take on it would be dope.”

Ray Luzier then joined the conversation, saying:

“Nine Inch Nails. It would be cool to hear Trent Reznor do a Korn song.

Welch said:

“And Duran Duran.”

Upon hearing this, Shaffer said:

“No.”

Welch continued:

“Just to hear them do a Korn song. That’d be awful.

Shaffer argued:

“That would be a cool experiment, yeah.”

Then, Welch said:

“I could sit here for an hour and tell you bands like Go Down Boston, Zeppelin, the Beatles.”

Shaffer added:

Bands that are alive.

Welch then revealed another band:

“Rage Against The Machine.”
