In a recent interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Dave Mustaine talked about how difficult it was for him to let David Ellefson go from Megadeth.
Dave Mustaine and David Ellefson had a rocky relationship that included feuds from the beginning of their career. However, Ellefson’s assault scandal was the last straw that got him fired from the band. The former bassist found himself in a scandal involving a leaked video of him masturbating with an underage girl, causing him to face child grooming accusations.
Even though it was later discovered that the woman was an adult who gave consent, staying in the group still wasn’t an option as there was too much backlash. Since the rocker had been married to Julie Foley, the situation became a cheating scandal and caused outrage in the Christian community.
The infamous scandal broke out while recording their latest album, ‘The Sick, the Dying… and the Dead!.’ In a recent interview, Mustaine stated that it was time to move on after what he’s been through in the last decades. While talking about Ellefson’s exit was tough, the musician said he has been much happier since his bandmate’s departure.
During the Rolling Stone interview, Mustaine said:
“With everything that had taken place over the past, 10, 20 years with my relationship with our past bass player, it just became time to, it’s so uncomfortable for me to talk about, it was hard for me to let him go. And I’m happier now than I’ve ever been.”
Nowadays, both Megadeth and David Ellefson have gone their separate ways. Megadeth re-recorded ‘The Sick, the Dying… and the Dead!’ with Testament’s Steve Di Giorgio, and Ellefson formed his new band titled The Lucid.
