Megadeth announced their new album The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead! this morning alongside a rager of a new single called "We'll Be Back." So what makes frontman Dave Mustaine still want to put out such relentlessly heavy metal all these years into his career? In an interview with Rolling Stone, he simply stated "Well, I still have a couple of bands in my crosshairs that I'm going after." Mustaine didn't elaborate anymore than that, but I think we can all probably guess which ones he's referring to.
Mustaine also clarified that the album title The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead! was chosen prior to COVID and while thinking of the children's rhyme "Ring Around the Rosie." Mustaine once again referenced one of those bands that's likely "in his crosshairs," saying "I wanted to add [the 'Ring Around the Rosie' rhyme] into a song, like we did in 'Go to Hell,' where I said, 'Now I lay me down to sleep,' which oddly appeared on a Metallica song at the same time. That was weird."
Check out the full interview here and pre-orders for The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead! are available here. For how he feels about the record itself, Mustaine stated this morning "For the first time in a long time, everything that we needed on this record is right in its place. I can't wait for the public to get hold of this!" The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead! features bass parts by Steve Di Giorgio of Testament, and is the first Megadeth record to feature drummer Dirk Verbeuren (ex-Soilwork, etc.).
