Originally released in 1980 on Motörhead's monolithic record, Ace of Spades, "Dirty Love" was also released as the B-side for "Ace of Spades"–proving the band was pretty confident of the jam's ability to melt your face off. You can also hear a shorter version of the song on the band's 1989's album Dirty Love containing recordings from Motörhead captured during the rehearsals of Ace of Spades at renowned UK recording studio Jackson's Studios in Rickmansworth in August and September of 1980. In a nutshell, it's the band playing the entire album from start to finish and other deep cuts from Motörhead's massive catalog. Dirty Love (the album) really wasn't ever supposed to be heard by anyone outside of Motörhead's camp, much less released, and was in Fast Eddie Clarke's (RIP) possession in 1989. That same year Clark sold them to Receiver Records, a UK label formed partly by Slade bassist Frank Lea and released it as Dirty Love.

Anyway, what we are saying here is this–nasty bullet-belted Cleveland, Ohio metallers Midnight have done their blasphemous predecessors proud by not only digging deeply into Lemmy and the gang's back catalog but also banging out a penetrating cover of a love song only Motörhead could write. Hell, the band's own label, Metal Blade even pulled out the Motörhead card in the band's bio referring to the track "Let There be Sodomy" from their latest release Let There be Witchery as "Motörhead-esque." A well-deserved brag Midnight lives up to with their speedy, making-love-with the-devil cover of "Dirty Love". As they say, it's jams like this from Motörhead's catalog that really put the "motör" in Motörhead, and fans of both bands should appreciate the fact Midnight selected this nasty little nugget for their crusty contribution to the upcoming Psycho Waxx release, Löve Me Förever: A Tribute to Motörhead due out in August 2022. Pre-orders are going on now.

You can see and hear Midnight's cover of “Dirty Love” right here recorded behind the scenes following the band’s performance at  Psycho Las Vegas in 2021. See the lineup and get tickets for Psycho Las Vegas 2022 here.
