Mötley Crüe’s Nikki Sixx recently took to his Instagram to pay tribute to his close friend Robbin Crosby on the 20th anniversary of the guitarist’s passing.

Robbin Crosby was the guitarist of the glam metal band Ratt. Throughout his career with the group, Crosby co-wrote many of their songs. Moreover, he also developed a friendship with Nikki Sixx of Mötley Crüe.

Crosby struggled with substance addiction for most of his life. While on the road for the Detonator Tour in February 1991, his substance abuse caused issues during shows. Crosby then left the band to check into a rehab facility, and Ratt continued with Michael Schenker.

In 1994, Crosby was diagnosed with HIV, which later developed into AIDS. In 2001, he publicly announced that he had AIDS and was HIV positive. Sadly, on June 6, 2002, Crosby passed away due to complications from AIDS.

On the 20th anniversary of Crosby’s death, Nikki Sixx paid tribute to his late friend with an Instagram post. He said he misses Crosby and can’t wait to start their UFO cover band someday. Moreover, Sixx included a picture of Crosby taken by rock photographer Mark Weiss.

Nikki Sixx’s Instagram post read:

“Thinking a lot about my best friend from back in the day. So many tributes are floating around on the web this week. Miss you, king. Can’t wait to start our UFO cover band together someday.”

Mark Weiss also posted the same picture on his Instagram and said this picture would appear in his book ‘The Decade That Rocked.’ Moreover, he cited Crosby’s famous quote and described him as the peacemaker in Ratt and a gentle giant.

In his Instagram post, the photographer Mark Weiss said the following about Robbin Crosby:

“Remembering Robbin Crosby of Ratt, who died on June 6, 2002. Robbin will be remembered in my book ‘The Decade That Rocked’ with this photo of him in front of his prized possessions.

‘When I die, don’t cry at my funeral. In fact, let’s all have a party; I’ve lived the life of ten men. I lived all my dreams and more.’ Robbin Crosby. Robbin was the peacemaker in the band. He was a gentle giant. His life ended way too soon. He is missed.”
