Much-loved Swedish progressive metal band Burst called it quits in 2009, played one reunion show in 2018 at Spain’s Be Prog festival, and then disappeared completely. The band recently returned to announce a new vinyl box set called A Labyrinth Of Layers and three reunion shows this November alongside Norna and Per Wiberg.
Now of course the big question – will Burst do their first new album since 2008? According to guitarist Jonas Rydberg, it could happen! Rydberg said it really depends on what the vibe around the reunion shows and how the band feels once they're jamming together again.
"Yeah new music, that's the big one isn't it? Look, I'm sure that we could write some awesome music if we find that we can hang out and have a good time together in the rehearsal space once more.
"There is a lot of stuff that either didn't work out the way we wanted them to back in the day, or that we were not competent enough to do or realize the way it should have been. There's also a bunch of ideas that never turned into anything at all and apart from that, hey – we're so much older now with so much more experience."
"So I mean, the potential is definitely there. It's mainly a question of if we enjoy doing this together, if we find that we have a good time. And if we do, and if we want to keep playing live and touring or whatever, we would eventually have to do something once more. So hey, I don't know. If we have a good time, sure. Why not?"
