Five Finger Death Punch’s Ivan Moody recently faced an unfortunate accident at the band’s Welcome to Rockville concert. He talked about how he got his eye injury and his current status.
Welcome to Rockville started on May 19 and ended on May 22. The 2022 lineup consisted of the most iconic names of rock and roll, giving metalheads a rock and metal delight for four days straight. After two years-long pandemic restrictions, the fans were happy to be a part of a rock festival that consisted of a lineup that included almost every notable name.
The bands also looked forward to performing to such huge crowds again. Still, because COVID-19 is still an ongoing virus, Jane’s Addiction canceled their show last minute because their guitarist Dave Navarro contracted the virus. Perry Farrell’s band, Porno for Pyros, replaced them.
The festival continued for four days, and Five Finger Death Punch was among the bands in the lineup. During their performance, the frontman Ivan Moody got dizzy from the heat of the Florida weather, and he tripped backward. A laser beam hit his eye, and he fell because he was blinded. He posted a video to update his fans about his condition and said he’ll walk around with an eye patch for a few weeks more.
Here is what he said about his accident:
“During the set, I got overheated. I walked back, and I passed out. I was grabbing Charlie’s kit. The heat was exhausting. Charlie almost passed out too. And I reached for a cymbal, and I felt myself going under. And so I ran back. And I was okay. My guys helped me out.
And as I was coming back on stage, one of the lasers kicked backward because I tripped basically over it, and it shot me in the eye. And these things are like; they basically have the power of a minor supernova; they’re really bad. If you put your phone up to one of them, it’ll actually black out your screen.”
He continued:
“So, anyway, I’ve gotta go back to Vegas, and I’ve gotta see a real eye doctor. And hopefully, it’s okay. I can’t see out of it right now. It’s, like, have you ever stared at the sun or a lightbulb, and you get that green light, and it blackens it out. Imagine that times, like, a thousand. They thought my retina was separated; that’s how bad it was.
So when I go to Europe here in a couple of weeks, you all might be seeing me with a f*cking patch on my eye. Go ahead. Make fun. Don’t care. But it is what it is. I had a blast. As I said, I’m really sorry. I felt like I got exhausted by the weight of the humidity. %85 humidity in 90-degree weather takes a toll. And I saw a lot of you falling down. And when I went to the E.R., there were a lot of you out there.”
More of his fans were in the hospital where he went, and the frontman included his fans in the video. They introduced each other and talked about the reasons they were there. Unfortunately, a few fans were in the hospital due to the scorching weather.
