Papa Roach’s lead singer Jacoby Shaddix revealed he hated that people compared him to Fred Durst in the interview with Metal Hammer he recently joined.

Jacoby Shaddix has been inspired by various genres such as rock, punk rock, hip-hop, and pop. He mentioned previously that Papa Roach’s 2022 album entitled ‘Ego Trip’ would include hip-hop, rock, and pop. Shaddix has been known for his rapping, besides being a successful rocker.

As for Papa Roach, the band is one of the nu-metal pioneers. However, Shaddix mentioned that although he was content to be one of the leaders of this genre, the band wanted to feel free to go out of nu-metal while creating.

As the vocalist stated, they celebrated the nu-metal and continued with other genres simultaneously. Although Papa Roach embraced the nu-metal, they did not prefer to be remembered for this genre.

In a recent interview, Jacoby Shaddix revealed that he did not like the comparisons with the Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst. The rocker stated that he was more into punk rock while Durst was doing hip-hop. Shaddix expressed his respect and admiration for Durst’s music at the end of these words.

When the interviewer talked about nu-metal comparisons, Jacoby Shaddix explained:

“I hated it; I couldn’t stand it. Everyone was trying to compare me to Fred Durst, and I was like, ‘I am so much more f*cking punk rock than this dude. He’s on the hip hop side.’ No disrespect to Fred. I think he’s f*cking great at what he does, and I dig him.”

Since he thinks he is more on the side of punk rock, Jacoby Shaddix does not want people to find similarities between him and Fred Durst. Although Papa Roach was one of the forerunners of nu-metal, the band preferred to celebrate this genre by being out of it.
