E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt recently tweeted, reacting to Elon Musk‘s Twitter purchase and plans to overturn former President Trump’s ban. According to Van Zandt, this allows a treasonous use of a platform.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently announced his plans to buy Twitter for around $44 billion. In April, Musk acquired a 9 percent stake in Twitter, and he already has ideas about the platform’s plans. Therefore, the social media giant became a private company for the business person after Musk’s purchase.
Elon Musk has complained about Twitter’s policies in many of his tweets. According to Musk, Twitter should be cautious with permanent bans and more reluctant to delete user tweets. Moreover, he also claimed that Twitter’s decision to ban Trump was a mistake and he would reverse the former president’s ban.
Although many agree with Musk concerning the platform’s stance on freedom of speech, others are reluctant as this move might lead to the spreading of misinformation, hate speech, or other harmful content. For now, it’s not clear whether this decision might cause further issues.
In his recent tweet, Elon Musk stated that he thinks Trump should be restored to Twitter, although he feels a less divisive candidate would be better in 2024. Upon seeing this, Steven Van Zandt posted a tweet as a response and revealed his thoughts on the issue.
Steven Van Zandt said we need to stop expecting Musk to do the attorney Merrick Garland’s job, that is, to charge him for the January 6 Capitol attack. Moreover, Van Zandt said there would be no Twitter in prison. He then implied that doing this is like giving ‘a malignant treasonous Russian asset mass murderer’ a platform to organize like-minded fascists.
Musk’s tweet read:
“Even though I think a less divisive candidate would be better in 2024, I still think Trump should be restored to Twitter.”
As a response, Steven Van Zandt said:
“We need to stop expecting Elon to do the job Merrick Garland’s too cowardly to do. Ain’t no Twitter in prison. If Elon wants to give a malignant treasonous Russian asset mass murderer a platform to organize like-minded fascists, I’m here to defend his right to do it!”
