In a recent conversation with Louder Sound, Opeth guitarist Mikael Akerfeldt talked about the soundtrack he released for the new mini-series ‘Clark.’
Mikael Akerfeldt, known for his clean baritone and growl vocals, became number 42 on the list of Greatest Heavy Metal Guitarists done by Guitar World. He created several successful works with Opeth.
The band gained global recognition with its ninth studio album called ‘Watershed’ released in 2008, reaching number 23 on the Billboard 200. Akerfeldt contributed to the band’s works as a songwriter, besides being the guitarist.
Recently, Akerfeldt released a soundtrack for new Netflix series named ‘Clark,’ based on the true story of the Swedish gangster Clark Olofsson. The rocker stated that creating the soundtrack was a challenging and amusing process. Akerfeldt said he endeavored to create a suitable sound that could reflect Clark Olofsson’s story. After completing the first track, the musician received good reviews from the director Jonas Akerlund as he revealed in the interview.
Mikael Akerfeldt explained in his words:
“Writing the music for Clark is probably one of the most rewarding things I’ve done musically. It was so fun. Challenging but fun. I wanted to do a good job, of course, and provide music that would fit with the rather bizarre tale of Clark Olofsson. I had to conjure up a sound for him. His sound. It’s all in my head, I guess, but it felt like I was on to something after having finished the first track. The immediate feedback from Jonas Åkerlund was almost overly positive. So I just took it from there.”
