This year, Judas Priest will be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. The official site lists Les Binks, K. K. Downing, Rob Halford, Ian Hill, Dave Holland, Glenn Tipton, and Scott Travis in the list of inductees.
Judas Priest will receive the Musical Excellence Award at the event, which will honour Eminem, Dolly Parton, Duran Duran, Lionel Richie, Pat Benatar, Eurythmics and Carly Simon in the Performers category.
“Wow, this is so exciting — at last. At last, you know?” Halford told Billboard after receiving the news before the public announcement. “And, glory hallelujah, there’s another Metal band in the Hall Of Fame! That’s the blessing we’ve all been waiting for.”
Halford also said former members were welcome to be part of the induction, and he feels any animosities can be set aside for the occasion.
“The Award for Musical Excellence,” the official award site says, “shall be given to artists, musicians, songwriters and producers whose originality and influence creating music have had a dramatic impact on music.”
The Musical Excellence award was originally titled as the “sidemen” category when it debuted. Last year Randy Rhoads was the recipient. Judas Priest and the E Street Band are the only recipients as a group in the category.
Judas Priest were inducted into the Hall Of Heavy Metal History at Wacken on 2 August 2018, by MetalTalk’s Whitney Alyson Ribbins and Steve Göldby.
