Gojira drummer Mario Duplantier revealed in a recent interview with Louder Sound that The Beatles were a great inspiration for them.
The Beatles were chosen as the most influential band when they appeared on the rock scene in the 1960s. The band combined skiffle, traditional pop, and classical music in their works. Later on, they tried to contribute his songs with styles like Indian music, hard rock, and psychedelia.
Using many different genres, The Beatles became an inspiration for other impactful names like Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins, and Pink Floyd. The band was the pioneer of several cultural movements in music in the 1960s.
For decades, the Beatles’ recording, writing techniques, and artistic production impacted the rock scene. As Mario Duplantier explained during a recent interview, The Beatles, Gojira’s favorite band, had an impactful inspiration in their works.
Duplantier stated that the band had a strong connection with The Beatles. Moreover, they felt like ‘I Want You (She’s So Heavy)’ could be their song. The drummer also added that Gojira sounds like a combination of death metal and rock bands like The Beatles.
Mario Duplantier said in his words:
“The Beatles were one of our favorite bands too, and they have been a strong influence on us. ‘I Want You (She’s So Heavy)’ could even be a Gojira song. But we also love death metal, so you have The Beatles and Mike Oldfield on one side and Morbid Angel on the other, and that’s where Gojira is today.”
Though The Beatles have influenced the musicians coming after them since the beginning of their careers, they are mostly less heavy bands than Gojira. Still, as the drummer Mario Duplantier explained, The Beatles’ impact on Gojira is prominent and improved their musical success.
