Alter Bridge guitarist Mark Tremonti recently gave an interview to Music Radar in which he revealed how Alter Bridge and Tremonti benefited from his Sinatra covers album.

Mark Tremonti is mainly known for his tenures in Creed and Alter Bridge as the founding member of both bands. He has also collaborated with many other musicians throughout his music career and formed his band Tremonti in 2011.

In March 2022, Tremonti announced the release of a cover album of Frank Sinatra songs that he recorded with Sinatra’s former band members. Titled ‘Tremonti Sings Sinatra,’ the album will be released on May 27, 2022.

In an interview with Music Radar, Mark Tremonti explained whether his upcoming cover album positively affects his work with Tremonti and Alter Bridge. He stated that he used to write songs and go to the studio to sing them, but now he focuses on how to sing the song to perform them confidently.

According to Tremonti, he now focuses on where to throw the vowel sounds, how he will breathe, and where he will throw vibrato while recording his songs. He feels confident and free, rather than falling down the stairs and singing without practice.

When asked about his project’s benefits to his other bands, Tremonti said:

“Absolutely. I was just talking to Myles Kennedy about that yesterday. In the past, I would write melodies and lyrics and go to the studio and sing them. I wouldn’t think too much about how I would approach it. I would do it by whatever emotion I had at the time.

But now, I will write down my lyrics and do the same thing I did with the Frank Sinatra stuff, hone in on exactly where I’m going to throw the vowel sounds, how I’m going to breathe, and how I’m going to throw vibrato and where I’m not going to throw vibrato. And just so when you sing it, you can sing it very confidently.

He then continued:

“You would think it would make it more robotic, but it sounds freer because when you’re singing it, you can then have that confidence in that word you’re singing and then put your spin on it as you’re going — instead of just falling down the stairs, singing something that you haven’t practiced.

Because even if you know the melody, if you don’t hone in on every word and every syllable of that word, you’re not going to get the most out of your vocal. So now I know, and I never thought of that in the past.”

As it seems, working on his album, titled ‘Tremonti Sings Sinatra,’ expanded Mark Tremonti’s vision on how to sing a song, and it gave him enough confidence and freedom to get the most out of his vocals.
