Former Scorpions guitarist Michael Schenker talked about the names he worked with during a conversation with Mike Brunn. The musician mentioned there was a chaotic atmosphere in Ratt.
Michael Schenker was a part of Scorpions as he contributed to their 1972 album ‘Lonesome Crow.’ UFO was one of the bands he joined after he departed from Scorpions until the 1979 album named ‘Lovedrive.’ He proved his success in UFO records called ‘Phenomenon’ and ‘Lights Out’ as well.
Later on, the guitarist established his band entitled ‘Michael Schenker Group’ in 1979. Then he organized the name ‘McAuley Schenker Group’ with the attendance of the new singer, Robin McAuley. In 1990, Schenker replaced Robbin Crosby in Ratt’s MTV Unplugged performance.
In a recent interview, Michael Schenker recalled when he joined Ratt, replacing Robbin Crosby before they embarked on a tour. Schenker stated that when Warren DeMartini asked him to join the band, he wanted to do it as a friend. As he was not doing anything else at that period, he accepted this offer.
Schenker said in the interview:
“And then the other thing was Ratt was just about to go on tour, and they had lost their other guitarist, Robbin Crosby. And Warren DeMartini came to me straight away and asked me, and I did it as a friend. I thought, ‘I’m not doing anything else. Why not do this? It’s a harmless thing.’ And when I was done with it, I carried on with Robin.”
Michael continued in the same interview by stating that he did not remember if the band asked him to make a record together because there was a chaotic atmosphere among the band members. As he mentioned, some of the members were leaving the band. The musician eventually wanted to part ways because he disliked being included in these conflicts.
When asked whether the members made an offer to record an album, Michael answered:
“I don’t remember because they were so chaotic. It was really awkward to be with them because they were divided. I don’t remember. I think it was the bass player and the drummer who was divided, and then the guitarist and the singer. And there was always a battle going on, and I was in the middle of it. I hated it. I couldn’t wait to get out of it.”
