Papa Roach’s Jacoby Shaddix talked about the band’s musical career in a recent interview with Metal Hammer. The singer mentioned how Sharon Osbourne scolded him in Ozzfest because he started a riot in 2001.

Ozzfest was an annual music festival tour founded by Sharon Osbourne and Black Sabbath icon Ozzy Osbourne. The event featured many heavy metal and rock bands over the years, such as in 2001 when Slipknot, Tool, and Disturbed hit the stage.

In addition to those groups, Papa Roach performed on the prestigious main stage on the United States and United Kingdom tours. Besides the successful shows, the band’s frontman Jacoby Shaddix started a riot, which created quite the controversy.

During Papa Roach’s performance at the festival, Shaddix encouraged the audience to throw mud on the stage. This event caused fights between people, which eventually led to chaos. Additionally, because the stage became dirty from all the things the audience had thrown, it was difficult for the upcoming act to perform.

Shaddix, who was excited to share a stage with notable names like Linkin Park at the festival, was rebuked by Sharon Osbourne because of what he did. After the incident, the rocker tried to escape from the place, but he got caught and arrested by the cops for starting a riot.

When he went to Sharon’s office, she scolded him for what he had caused. During a recent interview, the musician talked about this incident mentioning that Sharon was right to become angry because he made a mess on the stage for the upcoming performers like Slipknot and Ozzy Osbourne. Jacoby added that when he went to Sharon’s office, he had a verbal assassination from her, which was worse than handling the cops.

Jacoby Shaddix recalled the incident in his words:

“She cursed me out. Rightfully she was pissed as f*ck because the fans destroyed the venue; it was a f*cking disaster. Slipknot and Ozzy still had to play, and the place was in shambles. I tried to leave it in the trunk of a car, but they found out, and I had to turn myself into the cops.

Then I had to go sit with Sharon in the office, and she just cursed me, and I was just like, ‘I am so sorry, I will never do this again.’ I think if I’d just dealt with the cops and paid the money off, I’d have been like, ‘F*ck it, whatever.’ I would have carried on just numb-skulling. But I had this verbal assassination from Mrs. Osbourne. Don’t f*ck with Sharon.”

The nature of rock music, combined with young and wild musicians, gave birth to countless riots during shows. These rockers mostly get away with it, and these reckless behaviors inevitably calm down as these rockers grow up. Unfortunately for Jacoby Shaddix, he did it in charge of somebody like Sharon Osbourne instead of his band’s tour.
