Halestorm’s lead singer Lzzy Hale recently talked about meeting Joan Jett for the first time. While discussing how the generations changed, she admitted how she was a ‘dork’ when she had the chance to see Jett.

Lzzy Hale formed Halestorm with her brother Arejay Hale in 1997. They released their debut album in 2009 and quickly became a storm raging in the rock and roll world. Before they reached their fame, Lzzy Hale opened for the iconic Joan Jett and had the opportunity to meet her.

As every fan would know, once you meet your idol or hero, the first reaction may not be as fantastic as one imagined it to be. Hence, Lzzy Hale’s experience meeting one of the biggest stars in her early days was an excellent example of how initial reactions and the following conversation could be anything.

When Hale first met Joan Jett backstage, she started to talk about the weather and had an awkward conversation with Jett. She called herself a ‘dork’ to ask about the weather and expressed her regret about how naive she was to believe her sarcasm and take it seriously, which made the entire situation funnier.

Here is what Hale stated about meeting Jett:

“The first time I ever met Joan Jett, I was such a dork. I couldn’t think of anything to say. I was standing backstage, opening up for the legend. She’s like, ‘So, what’s up?’ and I’m talking about the weather. I said something like, ‘It’s hot.’ She goes, ‘Well, I like it hot.’ I’m like, ‘Yeah,’ and then it’s like, ‘Alright, I’ll see you later.’ I’m like, ‘Damn it.’

She’s funny because she’s super sarcastic. My guitar player Joe had brought me a melody maker. So, when I saw her, I brought the guitar, and so, I’m like, ‘Hey would you sign on this, just so I hang it up.’ She’s like, ‘I don’t sign guitars anymore.’ I believed her like, ‘Oh, that’s okay.’ And she’s like, ‘No, I’m f*cking with you.’ It was hilarious.

Joan Jett & the Blackhearts released their most recent album in March 2022 and continue to rock the world even after being active since the ’80s. The musician and her band are joining Motley Crue, Def Leppard, and Poison in this summer’s Stadium tour.
