During a recent interview with Sobre La Dosis, Gene Hogan answered questions about his music career. When asked about the projects he is most proud of, he mentioned Dark Angel, Death, Strapping Young Lad, and Testament.
After Gene Hoglan contributed to Testament between 1996 and 1997, he had parted ways with the band until he reunited with them in 2011. He was the drummer of the band until the beginning of 2022. Testament’s official Facebook page announced that Hoglan left the band in January because his solo schedule did not fit the band.
Both the band and Hoglan shared their good wishes by expressing gratitude for their decade together. Testament members stated that there was no conflict between them and that they would always stay as a family even though they parted ways. In addition, Hoglan wished luck to Testament members announcing his departure.
He previously shared his excitement for a new beginning in his solo music career. In a recent interview, Hoglan mentioned that he was proud of all the bands he had been a part of so far. He explained that being a Dark Angel member was very exciting because it was the beginning of thrash metal.
Hoglan also mentioned he was proud of the two albums he made with Death, ‘Individual Thought’ and ‘Symbolic.’ He was also proud of contributing to drumming with his unique styles and beats. Lastly, Hoglan didn’t forget to mention the ten years he worked with Testament and said those times brought him pride.
Gene Hoglan explained the projects he was proud of:
“That’s a long list there because even starting off with Dark Angel, that was my first band, and being a part of the birth of thrash metal that was super exciting, such an exciting time for metal and myself and for whole a lot of bands. So that was super duper cool.
Directly after Dark Angel, I worked with Death. Both albums I did with Death, ‘Individual Thought Patterns,’ ‘Symbolic,’ I’m very proud of both of those. I’m proud of my entire time with Death. That kind of makes me think about one thing I’m super proud of, which transcends all of the bands that I’ve ever been with. I’m very proud of what I hoped to bring to the drumming community. I really tried to create styles and beats and things like that that hadn’t been heard before.
I’m very proud of what I did, starting with Dark Angel leading on to Death, and there’s, of course, Strapping Young Lad. I’m very proud of the stuff we did with Strapping, working with Devin, Byron, and Jed, and all the albums that we got to put out. I really felt like we were changing lives every night. And you got Testament, of course. I’m very proud of my ten years with Testament absolutely.”
