Adult Swim gave the go-ahead for a Metalocalypse movie in 2021. The new movie will be the first new Metalocalypse material we've seen since the 2013 movie Metalocalypse: The Doomstar Requiem, despite efforts by show creator Brendon Small throughout 2015 to get the show revived. Now in an interview with Sobre La Dosis, drummer Gene Hoglan reveals he's once again involved in creating music for the show's fictional band Dethklok and their upcoming final movie. Hoglan also mentions that there may very well be a Dethklok tour surrounding the movie, which would be the band's first tour since 2012.
"One of the larger projects that's coming up really directly as well is Dethklok is working on a movie. So that's gonna entail some definite intent from me. You know, I'm deeply involved in that, so we're working on the next album, the soundtrack – well the movie doesn't quite have a soundtrack to it – but we're gonna have the movie, we're gonna have the album for Dethklok, and I would imagine some touring as well."
In the studio, Dethklok was Small, Hoglan, and bassist Bryan Beller (Steve Vai, The Aristocrats). The band was also usually joined by guitarist Mike Keneally (Joe Satriani) live.
