Van Halen’s former vocalist Sammy Hagar recently shared a post on his official Twitter account to celebrate the anniversary of his first album with the band entitled ‘5150.’ The musician added that his former band is the greatest rock and roll band of all time.
The Van Halen brothers Eddie and Alex, David Lee Roth, and Michael Anthony formed Van Halen in 1972. The band quickly became one of the most important names in rock and roll. With Eddie’s guitar-playing and Roth’s energetic live performances, they became rooted in the scene and created a legacy never to be forgotten.
David Lee Roth left the band in 1985 to focus more on his solo career, and the group replaced the singer with Sammy Hagar. They continued their success with Hagar until Roth returned in 2007 and performed with Van Halen until their disbandment in 2020. During his tenure with the band, the Red Rocker has put out four studio albums, the first of which was ‘5150,’ released on March 24, 1986.
The band broke up after the saddening death of Eddie, and the members continued music in their way. David Lee Roth announced his upcoming retirement, and Eddie’s son Wolfgang, their bassist since 2007, established his act with Mammoth WVH. Sammy Hagar continued the band’s legacy in their live shows by singing Van Halen songs with his band, the Circle.
He is very invested in performing and keeping the band’s iconic songs alive. Recently, Hagar celebrated the 36th anniversary of ‘5150’ and called Van Halen one of the greatest rock and roll bands. He also stated how proud he is to be a part of their legacy. Accompanied by a video, the tweet also included his surprise about how they could perform like this every single night.
Here is what he said in the tweet:
“When I look at this, all I can say is one of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll bands of all time. I’m so proud & honored to have been a part of it! It’s hard to believe we actually performed like that, night after night, for a decade! Happy anniversary 5150!”
