Meshuggah’s Tomas Haake Says He Loved Black Sabbath More With Dio Than Ozzy Osbourne

During his latest appearance on Revolver’s Fan First, Meshuggah drummer Tomas Haake shared his ideas about two former Black Sabbath leads, Ozzy Osbourne and Ronnie James Dio. He also named a Black Sabbath song that changed his life.

Black Sabbath released their eighth studio album entitled ‘Never Say Die!’ on September 28, 1978, and it’s known as Osbourne’s last album with the band. Shortly after Sabbath’s disappointing tour to promote their album, the band members decided to fire Osbourne because of his addiction problems.

Then, Black Sabbath manager Don Arden’s daughter Sharon Arden suggested Rainbow vocalist Ronnie James Dio replace Osbourne in 1979. Black Sabbath’s first album with Dio was ‘Heaven and Hell,’ released on April 21, 1980, and the singer’s performance was appreciated a lot.

As a person named Black Sabbath as one of his most significant influences, especially the band’s iconic drummer, Vinnie Appice, Haake compared the singers’ eras, saying that he liked listening to the songs performed by Dio more than Osbourne’s version of Black Sabbath works. He added that ‘Heaven and Hell’ was one of the songs that inspired him the most.

When asked about the songs that changed his life, Haake stated:

“Black Sabbath’s ‘Heaven and Hell.’ I always loved it with Dio more than I ever did or will with Ozzy Osbourne.”
