Former Guns N’ Roses guitarist DJ Ashba recently joined The SDR Show for an interview. During the conversation, he claimed his remark about Buckethead and Guns N’ Roses had no intention of discrediting Buckethead.

In late January, DJ Ashba gave an interview to Antihero Magazine and recalled the time Buckethead was performing along with Guns N’ Roses. Ashba was the former guitarist of GN’R between the years 2009 and 2015. Besides, the guitarist was a huge fan of the band as well.

According to what DJ Ashba told the magazine, Buckethead’s trademark stage appearance featured a chicken bucket on his head took the coolness out of Guns N’ Roses. Ashba said that he tried hard to bring back the rock and roll vibe to the band when he joined GN’R.

Although DJ Ashba also added that he respects Buckethead as a guitarist, these remarks created a controversy. In a recent interview with The SDR Show, the guitarist recalled those statements and tried to clarify what he wanted to say about Buckethead.

In the interview, the host Ralph Sutton agreed with DJ Ashba and said Buckethead’s look didn’t go with GN’R. As a response, Ashba said he tried to say the same thing without discrediting him. He then added that this is his own opinion, and he feels like Buckethead didn’t fit in Guns N’ Roses, the reckless rock and roll band we all know.

During the interview, Ralph Sutton told DJ Ashba about Buckethead the following:

“He’s a phenomenal guitarist. I do not deny that. I’m just saying that the look didn’t go with Guns N’ Roses.

DJ Ashba then responded:

“That’s all I was saying, no discrediting him at all. As a fan that just didn’t, that wasn’t rock and roll, the reckless rock and roll band that we all grew up on. So, you know, to me, it’s like I just didn’t feel like he personally fit, and that was just my opinion.”
