There have been rumors of Dream Theater vocalist James LaBrie lip syncing live lately, and LaBrie isn't having it. During a show on March 18 at the Bayou Music Center in Houston, TX, LaBrie went on a short rant about the accusations saying he's never lip synced in his entire life.
"How the hell we doing everyone? I'm gonna fucking clarify something right now, okay? People have been saying I'm fucking lip syncing? Fuck you. I have never lip synced in my entire life … Fucking, what is wrong with people online? I'm sorry, but fucking come and show me what I'm doing wrong. Fuck off. I guess I'm losing my mind because I'm almost at the end of the [tour] leg … okay, I'm done."
According to Blabbermouth, these rumors stem from recent performances where fans felt LaBrie was secretly relying on backing tracks and not actually singing at shows. While there are definitely pre-recorded vocal tracks playing through some of Dream Theater vocalist's performances, they seem like they're just your standard issue backing tracks (harmonies, etc.) and not a ruse to allow LaBrie not to sing his parts. Fans have specifically pointed to performances of "Bridges In The Sky," which again – it sounds like there are definitely some regular backing tracks in there, but it doesn't seem like lip syncing.
