Korn guitarist James ‘Munky’ Shaffer recently joined an interview with Michèle Lamy on Dazed. He reflected on his literary influence by revealing that Charles Bukowski had a significant impact on him.

Requiem‘ is the fourteenth studio album of Korn, released on February 4, 2022. The first single from the album, ‘Start the Healing,’ arrived on November 11, 2021, while the second one, ‘Forgotten,’ on January 13, 2022, and the third single, ‘Lost in the Grandeur,’ on February 2, 2022.

The album was recorded during the pandemic and stood out with emotionally heavy songs like the first two singles. It generally received positive reviews from critics and was highly praised for its artistic quality. The band has been currently continuing their North American tour in support of ‘Requiem.’ The tour is scheduled to end on April 1, in Kansas.

During his recent interview, after talking about the early days of his music career and musical influences, James Shaffer reflected on also his literary influences. He revealed that Charles Bukowski had a massive impact on him as he finds a similarity between Bukowski’s and his own experiences. Thus, he feels a special closeness to Bukowski’s works.

James ‘Munky’ Shaffer speaking on his literary influences:

Bukowski was a big influence for me. His experiences in Los Angeles resonated. There was a time when I was really just hanging out in the bars. I guess there’s some similarity between some of the experiences that he wrote about and mine. Hollywood and downtown, back then, it was a trip! Remember the second place we met, Michèle, in downtown?”
